Here’s a look at some notable streaks that were extended or shattered by the SEC teams that were in action in Week 10.
Alabama now has a five-game win streak against LSU, its longest win streak in the rivalry since an 11-game win streak in the series from 1971-81. Also interesting is that the Tide has beaten the Tigers in four straight games in which LSU has entered the matchup coming off a bye. LSU had won the first three such games in the series under Les Miles. And RB Derrick Henry has now recorded a TD in 14 straight games, which ties former Florida QB Tim Tebow for the longest streak in the SEC over the last 10 seasons.
Arkansas RB Alex Collins can now claim 1,000 rushing yards in his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. The only other SEC players that can say the same are fellow Razorback Darren McFadden (2005-07) and Georgia’s Herschel Walker (1980-82). Collins’ run while converting a fourth-and-25 in overtime gave the Hogs their third straight win. Arkansas will be at LSU this Saturday, looking for its first four-game win streak since winning seven straight in 2011.
Auburn snapped a five-game losing streak against teams ranked in the AP Poll with its 26-10 win over No. 25 Texas A&M. Prior to that, the Tigers had lost in consecutive games to Georgia, Alabama, Wisconsin, LSU and Ole Miss. Also, Auburn posted 443 total yards against Kentucky, making that the fourth straight game the Tigers have racked up at least 400 after only doing so once in the first five games of the season. The one in which they did hit the mark was an OT game against Jacksonville State, barely reaching the plateau at 401.
Florida has won 20 straight games against Vanderbilt when ranked in the AP Poll. The Commodores haven’t beaten a ranked Gators squad since 1988.
Georgia beat Kentucky 27-3 on Saturday, making that the second straight game the Bulldogs have been involved in with a score of 27-3 after being on the losing end of that score against Florida last week. Also, Georgia rushed for exactly 300 yards in Saturday’s win over Kentucky, a season high for the Bulldogs. UGA hadn’t rushed for 300 yards in a game since last year’s Belk Bowl win over Louisville, a span of eight games.
Kentucky only managed 180 yards of total offense in that contest against Georgia. The Wildcats had recorded at least 200 yards of offense in 26 straight games dating back to their Oct. 12, 2013 game against Alabama in which it only recorded 170.
LSU RB Leonard Fournette only managed 31 rushing yards on 19 carries against Alabama on Saturday night. Fournette had run for at least 150 yards in seven straight games this season (every game) before that. To put that into perspective, the next-three best SEC players in this regard have combined for eight total: Alex Collins (four), Derrick Henry (two) and Nick Chubb (two). The FBS player with the next-most 150-yard games this season is Florida State’s Dalvin Cook with five.
Ole Miss WR Laquon Treadwell had 7 catches, 132 receiving yards and a TD in the 53-52 OT loss to Arkansas. It was Treadwell’s fifth straight game with at least 100 receiving yards and a TD. The last SEC player with a longer streak was Florida’s Jabar Gaffney, who recorded six straight in 2000.
Mississippi State has recorded at least 300 passing yards and 3 pass TDs in each of the last three games, tied for the longest streak in the SEC this season. The only streak that can match that is in-state rival Ole Miss’ three-game stretch to start the season.
Missouri is on a four-game losing streak after its 31-13 loss to Mississippi State last Thursday night. This is the Tigers’ longest losing skid since 2004, when the team lost five straight. Mizzou faces BYU this Saturday in what is technically a neutral-site game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. However, Missouri did manage to end its drought of 14 quarters without a touchdown with RB Russell Hansbrough’s 14-yard run in the second quarter against MSU.
South Carolina, which is 3-5, is in the midst of its worst season through eight games since 1999. That means a span of 15 seasons had gone by without the Gamecocks having a 3-5 record or worse through eight games. South Carolina went 0-11 in 1999.
Tennessee and South Carolina have now played four straight contests that have been decided by 3 points or fewer: 2012: South Carolina def. Tennessee 38-35; 2013: Tennessee def. South Carolina 23-21; 2014: Tennessee def. South Carolina 45-42; 2015; Tennessee def. South Carolina 27-24. The two had only played five such games total before that since the Gamecocks joined the SEC in 1992.
Texas A&M surrendered 311 rushing yards in Saturday’s loss to Auburn. That’s the most the Aggies have allowed on the ground in a span of nine games dating back to Nov. 27 of last season against LSU, which gashed A&M for 384 yards.
Vanderbilt fell 9-7 to Florida on Saturday despite not turning the ball over while the Gators had 4 turnovers. The last time the Commodores lost a game despite going turnover-free while their opponent gave it away four or more times? Also against Florida back in 2004, when the Gators similarly overcame four miscues to post a 34-17 win.
