SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic tweets takeaways from SEC's Week 1 action
Last year, ESPN analyst Booger McFarland would take to Twitter every Sunday morning to share his thoughts on the previous day’s SEC action.
Now, though, McFarland is doing Monday Night Football for ESPN, but he left his Sunday Takeaways in capable hands.
As you can see below, SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic will be keeping the tradition alive, and he has shared his thoughts on Week 1’s SEC games.
Obviously, he left out LSU, as the Tigers play Miami Sunday night, but here’s what he thought about the other 13 squads:
AUBURN- Huge win. Defense is MVP. Russell was very disruptive up front. Safeties played run well. Run game will need to come along & playbook will need to open up more. Stidham was on point & young WR’s have promise. Front 7 will keep them in every game. OL must keep improving.

FLORIDA- Dan woke up some offensive ghosts…Jump pass, Shovel pass, deep shots! Franks has all the talent. Looked more comfy. New WRs are for real. OL has a way to go. The group of edge defenders with the addition of Moon may be the best in the league. D looked fast & athletic.

KENTUCKY- Snell & Rose a nice 1-2 punch in the run game. Better get QB situation figured out quick. Swamp will be rocking Saturday. Turnovers almost got them. Must clean those up.

OLE MISS- D. K. Metcalf. Offense looked phenomenal. Ta’amu was accurate. Made good decisions. Helped the run game. May have found some life on the ground with Phillips. Defense struggled on the perimeter. Week 3 will be intriguing.

TENNESSEE- OL was dominated outside of 73. Interior really struggled. 40 was a damn wrecking ball at NG for WVa. QB had no time. Secondary torched. JG did throw some nice balls. Can build around him. Just won’t have much balance. Jordan has great vision at RB.

MISSISSIPPI STATE- Dawgs have some QB depth. Big fan of Keaton Thompson. Will be interested to see how Nick handles being back in Manhattan. D-line is who we thought they were. Mitchell looked good outside where State must be more explosive.

A&M- Mond looked much more confident & poised in the pocket. Made great decisions in pass & run game. OL actually looked improved, different deal this week though. Jimbo has a legit weapon at TE. Loved how Elko moved personnel around up front. D line was very active. RB very good

We look forward to seeing Cubelic’s analysis each week as the season progresses. Meanwhile, McFarland will be off having fun at the NFL level with the MNF team.
