The SEC placed two teams in the National Championship Game in 2017, and if all goes well in 2018, the conference should have a few teams fighting for spots in the College Football Playoff.

Alabama, of course, won the national title, but Georgia had a big 2018 recruiting class and will be trying to show it is the best team in the SEC.

Though we haven’t even made it to spring practices yet, rankings are starting to come out for the upcoming season. Athlon Sports ranked each of the 130 FBS programs, and here’s where the 14 SEC squads ended up:

  • No. 1 — Alabama
  • No. 4 — Georgia
  • No. 9 — Auburn
  • No. 17 — Mississippi State
  • No. 19 — LSU
  • No. 25 — Florida
  • No. 29 — South Carolina
  • No. 31 — Texas A&M
  • No. 38 — Mizzou
  • No. 58 — Tennessee
  • No. 59 — Kentucky
  • No. 62 — Arkansas
  • No. 63 — Ole Miss
  • No. 64 — Vanderbilt

With six teams in the top 25 of Athlon’s rankings, it’ll be interesting to see if that’s how the AP Poll voters feel, too.

For now, though, things are sure to change as we get a first look at the 2018 teams this spring.
