SEC teams are taking another hiatus from the national championship game, making it back-to-back years a team outside of SEC football will win it all. However, the league still found a way to be represented in Atlanta on Monday night!

Ahead of kickoff between Ohio State and Notre Dame, the head referee introduced himself and confirmed that the officiating crew for Monday’s title game is from the SEC. With a Midwest-loaded crowd of fans from the Indiana and Ohio-based universities, the announcement drew a chorus of boos from inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

It’s an interesting nugget for the SEC, considering that the conference had just one team represented in the semifinals. And you can bet the SEC will be the subject of more social media trolling if the officiating becomes questionable in any direction throughout the game.

For now, fans are loving the introduction of SEC officials and the reaction of fans. Media personalities and fans on social media alike weighed into the setting, and some great reactions were shared throughout.

Here’s a sampling of some of the best posts:

We’ll see if the SEC missing the title game becomes the new normal or is just a blip on the radar in the new landscape of college football, but rival fans are enjoying the moment, to say the least.
