Every year, SEC underclassmen declare for the NFL Draft only to go undrafted, and 2018 was just another year of the same.

Of course, these players will almost certainly sign free agent contracts with some NFL team, but going undrafted, especially after leaving school early, is tough to swallow.

Would staying in school been the best decision for these players? It’s hard to argue against returning in hindsight, but it’s always 20-20.

Six former SEC players entered the draft as juniors but they all failed to hear their name called this weekend.

  • Jeff Holland, EDGE, Auburn
  • Kamryn Pettway, RB, Auburn
  • Eddy Pineiro, K, Florida
  • Trenton Thompson, DT, Georgia
  • Kevin Toliver, CB, LSU
  • Toby Weathersby, OL, LSU

The most surprising name on the underclassmen list would be Jeff Holland. Amazingly, Holland racked up 13 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in 2017. Yes, he didn’t have a good combine, but putting up those types of numbers in the SEC is certainly draft-worthy.

No doubt, though, Trenton Thompson could have used another year at Georgia, and Kevin Toliver may have benefited from another season at LSU.
