SEC vs. the world: Social media reacts to reports of potential alliance of major conferences
College Football Twitter is buzzing after a bombshell report from The Athletic that the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 are having discussions about forming an alliance.
The alliance could potentially lead to the three conferences scheduling with each other as well as voting together on major issues like College Football Playoff expansion.
Media members and fans were quick to share thoughts. One of the common themes was “SEC vs. the world.” Here’s a small sample of what is being said on Twitter right now about the possible major change to the college sports landscape:
We're moving closer to my theory of an NFL-AFL type playoff in CFB.
The Super-League SEC has its own playoff.
The rest of the country has their playoff.Winners meet in the national championship.
I mean why not? SEC already has one team in the championship game every year.

This alliance between ACC/B1G/Pac-12 makes plenty of strategic sense from a larger governance standpoint but not sure how it forces any ACC renegotiation with ESPN for more $$ or seriously impacts upcoming B1G/P12 media deals. Latter two leagues pooling rights however…

The most important aspect in The Alliance vs. SEC is voting power. The other 3 conferences can trump whatever the SEC wants in the current system. We get our first taste with College Football Playoff vote in September. Then the NCAA’s reform via Constitutional Convention. Huge.

The B1G’s bizarre loyalty to the Rose Bowl is going to drag them into the abyss. https://t.co/rsysTu81RG

Is this like one of those old Survivor alliances where one of them is inevitably plotting the demise of the others?
