Earlier tonight, the Southeastern Conference handed out its weekly football honors to the top performers from this past week of SEC football.

Here are the following Week 3 award winners:

Offensive Player of the Week

Alex Collins, RB, Arkansas

The sophomore tailback enjoyed the ninth most rushing yards in school history Saturday against Texas Tech, racking up 212 yards and two touchdowns.  Collins, along with teammate Jonathan Williams and others, gained 438 rushing yards for the game and Collins’ day was capped off with an 84-yard rushing touchdown to seal the victory for the Hogs. He now leads the SEC with 411 rushing yards.

Defensive Player of the Week

Shane Ray, DL, Missouri

Shane Ray continued his early season dominance on Saturday against UCF, turning in a record day of seven tackles (career high), two sacks and four tackles for loss. Per the official SEC release, Ray leads the SEC with an average of 2.5 tackles for loss per game. Ray, along with fellow defensive lineman Markus Golden, form one of the most dangerous pass rushing duos in the SEC.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Kyle Christy, P, Florida

In a game that was marred by sloppy offenses in the first half, Florida punter Kyle Christy put together one of his best games as a Gator. Christy recorded six punts for 292 yards, averaging nearly 49 yards per punt. He also matched a career-long with a 61-yard punt against Kentucky.

Freshman of the Week

Garrett Johnson, WR, Kentucky – Talk about a breakout performance. Wide receiver Garrett Johnson had just three catches for 25 yards entering Saturday’s game against the Florida Gators, but the freshman receiver didn’t shy away from the prime-time lights of The Swamp. Johnson hauled in six catches for 154 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Johnson was the beneficiary of some busted coverages by the Gators’ secondary, but there’s no doubt that Johnson was the Cats’ biggest playmaker in their triple overtime loss.

Offensive Lineman of the Week

Corey Robinson, OT, South Carolina

Robinson played an instrumental role on an offensive line that led the Gamecocks to 447 yards of total offense and 28 points on one of the best defenses in the conference. He also recorded 11 knockdown blocks, including three pancakes.

Defensive Lineman of the Week

Preston Smith, DL, Mississippi State

Another week, another honor for Preston Smith, who keeps dominating on the Mississippi State defensive line. The senior lineman collected another two sacks against South Alabama this past weekend. In addition to disrupting the opposing backfield, Smith also forced a fumble and blocked a 31-yard field goal. It’s his second blocked field goal on the season.
