SEC Women's Basketball Tournament action suspended due to weather delay
The SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament had play suspended Friday evening in an unusual turn of events.
In Friday’s action between Georgia and LSU, play was halted in the second quarter due to moisture on the court from rain leaking through the roof of Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. Severe weather has also been reported in the area, so there’s the potential that could play into more delays in the action.
***UPDATE***
At 7:18 pm ET, play was able to be resumed per the SEC. Hopefully the rest of the evening goes off without a hitch.
We’reeeeeeee back. ?@LSUwbkb & @UGA_WBB are finishing up a 10-minute warm-up period, and then we’ll resume with 4:23 on the clock in the 2nd Quarter and the Tigers leading 42-32.#SECWBB x #SECTourney pic.twitter.com/6hKtejp5mC

Both teams have gone to the locker room. They’re still saying we’re in a delay until the severe weather passes. #LSU #Georgia #SEC

Longtime fans of the SEC will remember the infamous 2008 SEC men’s tournament that was interrupted by a destructive tornado hitting downtown Atlanta. Hopefully, that is avoided this time around with play able to resume soon without any further delay or strong severe weather.
Probably not the first time water came through that roof and probably not the only place, maybe they left that fact out of their application bid to host and maybe they need to compensate the league? Not good? Who is on the site choice decision list?
Anyone recall the tornado-event during the SEC man’s tournament in Atlanta ? That was severe weather. They had to move the games to the Georgia Tech Arena that held on 50% of the seating capacity. The SEC did a great job in handling that move overnight. And the games were played.
Oops typo…men’s
