What a rough weekend for college football in the Sunshine State. Boston College beat Miami Friday night 27-14. Clemson blew out Florida State in Tallahassee 59-10. Georgia thumped UF 36-17. Houston gave USF its first loss of the season 57-36.
Rival fans trolling each other might look the “two Spider-Mans” meme, but the Noles faithful arguably had it the worst having to experience a blowout at home. One person in attendance went viral when the ABC cameras showed him, shirtless, reading Gillian Flynn’s book “Dark Places.”
Tashan Reed of The Athletic did some good old fashioned reporting to find out the identity of the FSU fan gone viral.
I ran up Doak Campbell’s steps to talk to the shirtless guy with a book. Turns out he’s FSU professor Bruce Thyer. He just wanted to get some sun and read. Unintentionally, he became the defining image of the worst home loss in FSU history: https://t.co/GZU3IM3v0i

It turns out the shirtless reader in Doak Campbell Stadium was university professor Bruce Thyer. His FSU bio can be viewed here. It appears he studied at Michigan, Georgia and Maryland. Perhaps, somewhere in Tallahassee, Thyer is celebrating UGA’s win over Florida – without his shirt.
