Memphis football players Jae’Lon Oglesby and Kam Prewitt have been indefinitely suspended after an on-campus altercation and a shooting incident.

According to The Commercial Appeal, Oglesby heard gunshots outside his apartment around 10 p.m. Tuesday. When he later went outside, he saw bullet holes in two windows and both passenger doors of his Nissan Altima. He told police he did not see the shooter, but mentioned a prior on-campus altercation with Prewitt.

The paper notes that officers found five shell casings, and one bullet went through an apartment window.

Memphis released a statement on the matter Wednesday morning:

“We are aware of the incident involving two student-athletes on the University of Memphis campus yesterday and are cooperating fully with the investigation,” athletic director Tom Bowen said in a statement Wednesday morning. “All student-athletes are subject to the University of Memphis Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities, as well as University and athletic department policies.

“In addition, we are monitoring a second situation involving shots fired at a student-athlete’s parked vehicle at an off-campus location. We have offered our full support to the local authorities investigating that incident.”

Oglesby, a sophomore wide receiver, has 25 catches for 213 yards in his career. Prewitt, a freshman cornerback, has not yet played.
