Arkansas offensive line coach Sam Pittman accepted Kirby Smart’s offer to serve as the new offensive line coach in Georgia, and the Razorbacks did all they could to change his mind.

According to wholehogsports.com, Pittman is one of the best O-line coaches in the country, and he is also one of the highest paid. And even though he will now owe $250,000 of that paycheck to Arkansas for an early buyout, he will undoubtedly make it up with the Bulldogs.

Smart was also interested in Hogs offensive coordinator Dan Enos, but Razorbacks head coach Bret Bielema told him that was a no-go. Pittman is one of the only Arkansas coaches to not be bound by a non-compete clause, while Enos is legally prohibited from leaving Arkansas for another SEC coaching job.

Bielema didn’t want Pittman to go either though, and he took at least seven offensive linemen to Pittman’s house for a last-ditch plea. Unfortunately for the Razorbacks, it didn’t work.

In his press conference, Bielema said he was confident he could replace Pittman. But that confidence didn’t squelch his bitterness over Smart pursuing a number of coaches on the Hogs staff.

“Maybe I should just call Kirby and we should just exchange cities, make it a lot easier,” Bielema said.
