Southern Miss coach Jay Hopson rips school's AD for not letting him hire Art Briles as assistant
In recent days, former Baylor head coach Art Briles has been linked to an opening on the Southern Miss staff, and it has drawn mostly negative reactions across the country.
Briles was involved in a scandal at Baylor in which several sexual assaults were covered up, and it cost him and AD Ian McCaw their jobs.
Still, Southern Miss decided to interview Briles, but on Wednesday, the school issued a statement that said Briles is not a candidate for the job:
Southern Miss statement: "We have met with Art Briles regarding a position with the Southern Miss football program. Following that meeting, we informed him that he is not a candidate. The University will have no further comment on this matter."

That decision didn’t sit well with current head coach Jay Hopson, who issued a response ripping the school for not giving Briles a second chance:

Painting Briles as the victim in this situation is not a good look for Hopson, as many people’s lives were negatively affected because of the coverups at Baylor. Also, calling out your boss in public like this is also not a good idea, so we’ll see if there are any repercussions that come Hopson’s way.
