The Southland conference just committed a murder on X.

Mississippi State and Florida have struggled this season, top state the obvious. They’re 2 of the bottom teams in the SEC this season and may very well be fighting for the honor of not being last place when it’s all said and done.

The RedditCFB account on X made a tongue in cheek post Saturday afternoon, insisting the winner of MSU-UF will have momentum heading into next year while the loser is relegated to the Southland conference.

But the Southland conference wasn’t having any of that:

You know it’s rough when the FCS conference of football powerhouses such as Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana doesn’t even want the Gators or Bulldogs.

The Dan Mullen bowl is trending in Florida’s favor thus far. The Gators, led by Graham Mertz, lead 21-7 with a smidge over 9 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter. Despite all the rumblings that Mertz should be benched in favor of freshman DJ Lagway, the 6th-year senior has responded with 147 passing yards and 3 touchdowns.

Expect Lagway to see action in this one, though. Napier said this week that he expects the freshman QB to see the field several times against the Bulldogs. So far, Lagway has appeared for just one pass, which he completed for 10 yards.

Let’s see if the Gators can improve to 2-2.
