Sporting News 2022 Preseason All-American team features 16 SEC standouts

With the 2022 college football season just around the corner, media outlets are putting out preseason lists. The Sporting News recently unveiled its Preseason All-American team.

The SEC leads all conferences with 16 players on the team. The Big Ten was next with 11 players, and the ACC was third with 7 selections.

Alabama has the most selections on the team with 6 players, led by Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young. Jahmyr Gibbs, a transfer running back from Georgia Tech, is listed as an “ATH” on the first team.

Here are the SEC players named Sporting News Preseason All-Americans.

ATH: Jahmyr Gibbs, Alabama
DL: Jalen Carter, Georgia
LB: Will Anderson, Alabama

Second-team selections

TE: Brock Bowers, Georgia
OG: O’Cyrus Torrence, Florida
OG: Layden Robinson, Texas A&M
DL: Gervon Dexter, Florida
DL: BJ Ojulari, LSU
CB: Eli Ricks, Alabama
CB: Cam Smith, South Carolina
S: Jalen Catalon, Arkansas
