The NCAA officially announced that Justin Fields is eligible to play in 2019.

This early in the offseason, Ohio State has not yet named a starting quarterback, but one sportsbook is already updating its national championship odds based on the Fields news. Popular online sportsbook Bovada bumped from 12:1 to 8:1 (+800) after the announcement on Fields’ eligibility. The new odds move the Buckeyes ahead of Oklahoma (+1000).

Defending national champion Clemson is the favorite (+165) to win again with Alabama not far behind (+230). Ohio State is now at No. 3, tied with – this is fun – Georgia. You can only imagine the hype surrounding a potential Ohio State vs. Georgia College Football Playoff game.

Though Fields played limited snaps as a freshman, it’s not surprising to see oddsmakers expecting him to have an impact season at Ohio State. As a 5-star recruit, Fields was rated the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback of the 2018 class and No. 8 prospect overall all-time on the 247Sports Composite.
