Auburn hadn’t beaten a top-five opponent since Arkansas in 1995, but that changed Saturday.
The Auburn Tigers spoiled the No. 5 Tennessee Volunteers party at Auburn Arena 84-80, and it was one of the funnest games of the year.
The two teams traded blows throughout the first and second half, with the Tigers getting off to a big second-half start and eventually closing it with some huge shots late in the game.
Jared Harper hit two monster threes late in the game — not to mention clutch free throws — to help give the Tigers the upper hand. Samir Doughty made a big three with just over a minute left off a Grant Williams blocked shot, too.
Auburn was led by Chuma Okeke who scored 22 points, while Harper added 16 points and Bryce Brown added 16. The Tigers also hit 17-22 free throws.
The Vols were led by Grant Williams’ 25 points. Jordan Bowden also scored 16, and Jordan Bone scored 17.
For Tennessee, all eyes will be on the LSU-Vanderbilt game tonight. Should the Tigers lose, Tennessee still wins share of SEC title. If LSU beats Vandy, the Tigers win the SEC title outright.
