The Gamecocks have to face a pair of top-10 teams in Tennessee and Clemson to finish their season, one that has failed to see any considerable progress from Shane Beamer’s first year in Columbia. They face a team this week that could not be more opposite.

Hendon Hooker has become a household name across the country. He’s racked up 2,888 yards passing, 24 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions to go alongside 405 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns on the ground. The 5th year senior is easily having his best year in the college ranks. Add a trio of uber-talented receivers in Cedric Tillman, Bru McCoy and especially Jalin Hyatt and its not hard to determine why Tennessee is blowing out just about everyone it plays.
South Carolina fans were hoping Spencer Rattler, an Oklahoma transfer, would be putting up similar numbers at this point of the season. The hype around Rattler was unreal, with some even going as far to crown him as a top 3 SEC quarterback before he took a snap with the Gamecocks. That has not panned out so far.
The Gamecocks offense is turbulent because of Rattler. He’s thrown for 1,982 yards 8 touchdowns and 9 interceptions this season, a fate that is head-scratching after his 27 touchdown year at Oklahoma in 2020. Truly, South Carolina is at its best when it can run the ball well.

Tennessee was already going to be a hard act to stop. The Gamecocks have struggled defensively, especially as of late, and have not been able to garner enough offense to beat teams like Mizzou and Florida. Take away their top 2 rushing threats and the job gets that much tougher.
It’s hard to imagine this one being close. The Gamecocks have to hope Tennessee is on autopilot and create some big plays from the jump to get the crowd at Williams-Brice into things, otherwise we could be in for a one-sided Saturday night.
Prediction: Tennessee 52, South Carolina 10
