The Athletic’s early 2023 NFL Mock Draft features 14 SEC players in Round 1

It’s never too early to look ahead to the NFL Draft!

So, even though the 2022 NFL season hasn’t started yet, The Athletic had experts Nate Tice and Nick Baumgardner release their early 2023 NFL Draft Round 1 projections.

As you can see below, the SEC is once again expected to dominate, with 14 players from the league expected to go in the first 31 picks (with the Miami Dolphins forfeiting pick No. 18 due to tampering):

Here are the SEC players going in Round 1 in The Athletic’s projections:

  • No. 1 — Will Anderson Jr., Edge, Alabama — New York Jets
  • No. 3 — Jalen Carter, DL, Georgia — Atlanta Falcons
  • No. 4 — Kelee Ringo, DB, Georgia — Chicago Bears
  • No. 5 — Bryce Young, QB, Alabama — Seattle Seahawks
  • No. 6 — Kayshon Boutte, WR, LSU — Jacksonville Jaguars
  • No. 7 — Will Levis, QB, Kentucky — New York Giants
  • No. 10 — Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida — Carolina Panthers
  • No. 12 — Nolan Smith, Edge, Georgia — Houston Texans
  • No. 17 — Antonio Johnson, DB, Texas A&M — Philadelphia Eagles
  • No. 24 — Arik Gilbert, TE, Georgia — Los Angeles Chargers
  • No. 28 — Colby Wooden, Edge, Auburn — Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • No. 29 — Cam Smith, DB, South Carolina — Dallas Cowboys
  • No. 31 — Brian Branch, DB, Alabama — Green Bay Packers
  • No. 32 — Layden Robinson, OL, Texas A&M — Buffalo Bills
