It’s not unusual for someone with SEC ties takes a shot at the Big Ten, but someone of Tim Tebow’s stature offers another perspective.

During an appearance on ESPN’s “First Take,” Tebow explained why Michigan, which is ranked No. 4 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, won’t make it to a semifinal. Michigan will face Rutgers and Indiana before it’s season-defining game at Ohio State.

“I think they’re going to be a favorite against Ohio State, and Ohio State is going to be able to knock them off and go to the Big Ten Championship,” Tebow said, according to 247 Sports. “It doesn’t matter who they play. Neither one of them are getting in. Michigan, that is their opportunity. This is their chance. They’re in the top four. Everyone else has lost but can they find a way to beat their rivals Ohio State? They haven’t done it yet. Will it be this year? I’m saying probably not.”

Michigan’s lone loss came in the season opener against Notre Dame, but as the Irish continue to be undefeated, it’s among the best losses of any of the top contenders for the CFP.

Those who follow Michigan might remember Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner, ripped the Wolverines’ effort in a 24-17 loss to Notre Dame, which he called “pathetic.”

“I’ve got to be honest,” he said then. “I was kind of shocked. I expected more from Michigan. I expected more from Shea Patterson. I expected more from their offense. Honestly, I thought it was kind of pathetic. I thought their effort was. I thought all of their recruiting, their talent, and that’s how you showed up against Notre Dame, who I think is also a little bit overrated?

You’ve got to give me more than that. You’ve been there. You’ve recruited your guys. Now, this is your chance to make a statement to show the type of coach you are, that you’re worth all that money they gave you, that you’re worth all these trips to Paris and everywhere else. I think it’s cool you take trips, but the most important trips [are] when you go get a ‘W,’ big guy.”
