A notable running back in the Class of 2022 has pared his list of schools to five, and two of them hail from the SEC.

Cincinnati LaSalle 4-star running back Gi’Bran Payne named a top four of Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame, Northwestern and Penn State on Saturday.

Payne is ranked the No. 18 running back in the 2022 class by the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 181 overall prospect. 247Sports has him No. 151 overall and No. 11 at running back. Both ratings list him the No. 7 junior in the state of Ohio.

The 5-foot-10 and 190-pounder has 17 offers.

Allen Trieu of 247Sports outlined where Alabama and Florida stand with Payne:

“The Crimson Tide offered last June and for a time, held a commitment from teammate Devonta Smith. Charles Huff was recruiting him for the Tide and he is now at Marshall, but Payne had many other good things to say about the program other than just his relationship with Huff.

“They’re used to winning. That’s what I like about it,” he said in November.

The Gators have steadily been a presence in each of Payne’s cuts. While he has not had a chance to get to campus, he has built a relationship with the staff including Greg Knox. The Gators are the latest school to offer on this list, having offered in August, but have made up ground since then.”
