Several true freshmen continue to make an impact this season around the SEC. Here’s a look at some of the biggest contributions from the past week:
Alabama: Calvin Ridley led the Crimson Tide with 7 catches for 51 yards in Alabama’s huge 30-16 victory against LSU. Defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick had 2 tackles.
Arkansas: Dre Greenlaw continued to make a big impact on defense, recording 9 tackles in the Razorbacks’ upset of Ole Miss.
Auburn: Versatile running back Kerryon Johnson got back into the mix for the Tigers offense in the victory against Texas A&M. He finished 2nd on the team with 83 all-purpose yards. He carried 3 times for 19 yards, had 3 catches for 43 yards and had a 21-yard kickoff return.
Florida: Running back Jordan Scarlett carried 4 times for 8 yards. Wide receiver Antonio Callaway had 1 catch for 11 yards.
Georgia: Wide receiver Terry Godwin had 4 carries for 26 yards and a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ bounce back win against Kentucky. He also had a 9-yard punt return.
Kentucky: Chris Westry had 5 tackles and broke up a pass in the Wildcats’ 27-3 loss at Georgia.
LSU: Defensive lineman Arden Key had a big game, but it wasn’t enough for the Tigers to stay undefeated in Tuscaloosa. Key finished with 6 tackles, including a sack for nine yards, and he also recovered a fumble. Running back Derrius Guice didn’t get a carry and had 43 yards on 4 kickoff returns.
Mississippi State: The Bulldogs didn’t get a major contribution from true freshmen in the Thursday night win at Missouri.
Missouri: Drew Lock completed 11 of 26 passes for 107 yards with 2 interceptions. Punter Corey Fatony had seven kicks for an average of 39.7 yards and a long of 56 with one inside the 20. Defensive lineman Terry Beckner Jr. had 4 tackles, 1 for a loss, and a fumble recovery in the loss to Mississippi State.
Ole Miss: The Rebels are redshirting most of their freshman class, but offensive tackle Javon Patterson continues to play a lot on the offensive line.
South Carolina: Lorenzo Nunez carried twice but didn’t net a yard. Tight end Hayden Hurst had 2 catches for 29 yards.
Tennessee: Linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. was in the starting lineup for the fifth straight week and had a team-high 9 tackles for the Vols in the win over South Carolina. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings had a catch for 5 yards.
Texas A&M: After a huge debut as a starter last week, quarterback Kyler Murray threw for 105 yards and rushed for 37 yards and threw 3 interceptions in the loss to Auburn. Christian Kirk caught 7 catches for 44 yards and defensive tackle Daylon Mack had 3 tackles.
Vanderbilt: Quarterback Kyle Shurmur went back to the bench this week.
