Danny White appears poised to throw a Hail Mary after an undefeated UCF was left out of the latest College Football Playoff.

If you can believe it, the school’s athletic director is calling for a return of the BCS Rankings. White made an appearance on ESPN program The Dan LeBatard Show to discuss his thoughts on the current college football postseason process that he believes to be flawed.

Serving as a guest caller on the program, White said he doesn’t want to change the process immediately but is interested in seeing the system change moving forward, citing an opportunity for non-Power 5 schools to get a shot at the national championship.

“I am trying to change the process for 2018 and beyond,” White said on the show. “I think the Playoff should expand, we need at least eight teams. I think we need to go back to the rankings we had during the BCS era.”

White’s rationale centered around what he called a “bias” against schools outside of the Power 5.

“In the BCS era, teams that I mentioned like a Boise State, like a TCU, like a Utah, they finished the season ranked so high they were outside of what was then the six power conferences in the BCS era with the Big East, and they still got more respect,” White continued. “We are on the outside looking in.”

What White fails to mention is that none of the programs he cites played for a national title. They were ranked so high in the final polls after defeating Power 5, or BCS back then, programs in bowl games. White also fails to mention Houston’s 2016 program, which had a realistic shot at making the Playoff after knocking off ranked opponents Oklahoma and Louisville. Had Houston taken care of business and run the table in conference play, they very likely would have made the Playoff last season.
