ORLANDO, FLA. — This year’s Under Armour All-Americans continued their week of practice at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex on Tuesday in advance of Friday’s All-America game at Tropicana Field in Tampa, Fla.

Here’s what stood out to us on Day 2 of practice in Orlando.

OFFENSE

QB Kyler Murray (Texas A&M) — Murray struggled on day two of practice. Weather played a role, sure, but the Texas A&M commit wasn’t accurate. Murray threw beautiful spirals, but had trouble escaping pressure in good-on-good and overshot some receivers. He used his legs to extend plays a couple of times, but stood in the pocket and looked to throw during most of practice. Judging his performance in Tuesday’s practice, Murray needs to play better in inclement weather.

QB Blake Barnett (Alabama) — The Crimson Tide are getting a prototypical quarterback. Barnett is listed as a dual-threat quarterback, but has the size and arm to throw from the pocket. Barnett doesn’t have as much zip on his ball, but he is extremely accurate. The California native didn’t stretch the field much, sticking to higher percentage throws in the flats and across the middle. Barnett did a nice job of going through his progressions, not telegraphing throws as quickly. Aside from velocity, Barnett needs to be able to stretch the defense and make quicker decisions.

RB Nick Brossette (LSU) — At 6-foot, 211-pounds, Brossette runs with a low center of gravity and is tough to wrap to the ground. The LSU commit had a nice run up the middle during the second half of practice, exploding through the hole and showing nice acceleration when he hit the second level. A native of Baton Rouge, La., Brossette needs to improve his pass protection skills. He’ll make a nice addition to a crowded LSU backfield, but Brossette has tremendous upside.

WR Tyrone Johnson (uncommitted) — A touted prospect from New Orleans, La., Johnson lined up at wide receiver for the Black team. Johnson did not have a good day on Tuesday, however. The LSU and Auburn target was looked to several times by Murray, but couldn’t come down with a catch. Johnson’s a superb route-runner. His inability to ward off defenders and make plays is troublesome for a sought-after playmaker.

WR Christian Kirk (Texas A&M) — The five-star wideout from Scottsdale, Arizona showed why he could be a lethal weapon both on the outside and in the slot when he arrives at Texas A&M next month. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound receiver displayed his breakaway speed and made quick cuts on a wet field that many other receivers could not make. He was among the best route runners between the two teams, and was tough for defensive backs to contain in space. He also spent time returning kickoffs alongside five-star uncommitted tailback Soso Jamabo (who is considering Alabama, Texas A&M and Arkansas among a number of schools).

OL Christian Pellage (South Carolina) — Pellage has remarkable size from his tackle position, a welcome sight for Gamecocks fans. Pellage won most of his individual drills on Tuesday, showing off impressive footwork for a 6-foot-7, 285-pound offensive lineman. The Brooksville, Fla., native needs to improve his hand placement and ability to adjust to spin moves and other tactics. Overall, however, Pellage was one of the more impressive players on Tuesday.

DEFENSE

LB Jordan Colbert (Auburn) — At 6-foot-3, 205-pounds, Colbert is an athlete at linebacker and safety. The Griffin, Ga., native played safety in high school but is playing linebacker for coach Steve Mariucci this week. His versatility is quickly noticeable, along with his athleticism and ability to play the football. Colbert made a fantastic diving play to break up a Murray pass early in the ones-on-ones portion of practice. A few players later, Colbert picked off Murray on the right side of the field, showing his range. The Auburn commit will make a fantastic addition to Will Muschamp’s defense.

CB Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama) — A five-star prospect, Fitzpatrick impressed on Tuesday showing huge potential as a lockdown corner in the SEC. Fitzpatrick roamed the right side of the field for the Team Armour, catching the eye a few times of Primetime himself. Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who’s serving as a coach this week, spent most of his time on Fitzpatrick’s side of the field observing. Quarterbacks didn’t test the New Jersey native much and when they did, his cover skills were on display.

CB Micah Abernathy (Tennessee) — Playing opposite Fitzpatrick, Abernathy quietly showcased his skills on Tuesday. The Tennessee commit lined up against Johnson several times, making it difficult for the five-star receiver to find open space. Abernathy doesn’t have great size — he’s just listed at 6-foot-1, 181-pounds — but he has a knack for breaking up passes. The Atlanta, Ga., native could have an instant impact for the Volunteers.

DE Arden Key (South Carolina) — Key was perhaps the most impactful defensive end on the field Tuesday. The South Carolina commit made waves during individual drills terrorizing offensive linemen with his quickness and spin move off the edge. His first step is quick, and he explodes at the point of attack. Courted by Gamecocks defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward, Key looks to be the next in a growing list of standout defensive linemen to come through South Carolina.

CB Kevin Toliver II (LSU) — A huge pickup for head coach Les Miles recently, Toliver worked most of the day against the nation’s top wideout — and Texas A&M commit — Christian Kirk. Toliver has great size at 6-foot-2, 193-pounds. Toliver rotated snaps with Abernathy and had some issues with the footing, but Toliver projects well to the next level and will grow into a great player over time.

OTHER NOTES

  • Four-star offensive guard and Alabama commit Lester Cotton sat out Tuesday’s practice while he recovers from a concussion.
  • Pellage said his Team Highlight teammate and fellow South Carolina commit Shameik Blackshear (defensive end from Bluffton, South Carolina) will arrive Thursday to finish out the week’s festivities with the rest of this year’s All-Americans. Blackshear will not participate in the game due to an injury.
  • Outside the SEC, three-star uncommitted place kicker Louie Zervos was wildly inaccurate on field goal tries of beyond 40 yards while practicing with team Black Armour. Zervos missed a handful of kicks wide to the left, and also landed a few kicks short of the crossbar while battling a wet field and some modest wind.
