College football rivalries are intense. Some college football coaches are paranoid. Urban Meyer was incredibly paranoid when it came to the Florida-Florida State rivalry during his time as UF’s head coach (2005-10).

During Dan Mullen’s Monday press conference, a reporter shared that former Florida DB Ahmad Black told her that Meyer refused to eat the food in Tallahassee because he worried it might be poisoned. Mullen, who was Meyer’s offensive coordinator at Florida from 2005-08, confirmed that to be true.

Mullen elaborated that college football coaches tend to be paranoid in general. He said that if a coach gets sick after eating on the road, they are likely to assume something was put in the food.

While it did not sound like Mullen was concerned about being “poisoned,” he did confirm that the Gators will eat in Gainesville before boarding the bus for Tallahassee, a ride of roughly 150 miles.
