Ohio State president Michael Drake was a recent guest of the WOSU’s public media radio show All Sides and laid out some guarded insight into the latest with the school’s investigation into Urban Meyer.

The most important note Drake revealed was that the “14-day investigation” Ohio State previously announced wasn’t a firm timeline for when a resolution would be announced. Sunday was the projected timeline given the original 14-day window.

“That’s the projected goal,” Drake said on the show. “The investigation is underway as we speak. It will be finished when it is finished. The most important thing is to get good information so we can make the right decisions going forward.”

Drake would not get into specifics but offered up these thoughts on what the investigation is attempting to accomplish.

“What we’re doing is an investigation to try to find out exactly what happened, why, what the context was, etc.,” Drake continued. “I’m going to wait until I know those things before I make conclusions. I’m doing my best possible job to keep an open mind. And, as I said, stay tuned.”

With Ohio State AD Gene Smith now possibly involved, given the uncertainty of what he knew reading the allegations against Zach Smith and Meyer’s claim that he passed the information up to his superiors — conveniently without naming who he informed, some wonder if his future is cloudy at the school. While Drake was asked about Smith, he again declined to offer much insight into that aspect of the investigation.

“I will say that the team is investigating this particular set of circumstances and I don’t know all the questions they’re asking or how they’re going about it,” Drake concluded. “I’m waiting until they come forward with information and we’ll try to use that information to make the best decisions we can.”
