Fake injuries in college football have been an issue for years, but have once again come up this season in multiple games. The matter typically comes up when an offense is in rhythm, and marching down the field. Defensive players typically fall on the ground, and grab at a calf or ankle, and complain of cramps, at times.

Now, a former NFL referee, Terry McAulay, has weighed in on the issue. He explained the difference between the NFL and college.

“Faking injury continues unabated because there is no consequence,” he tweeted. “The reason it rarely occurs in the NFL is the consequences for players/coaches/clubs are enormous. The solution is Conferences establish a similar line in the sand. But as we all recognize, they are inherently too weak to do what is necessary. Ex. Does anyone think would ever suspend?”
