Video: Should this Alabama player have been ejected for this massive hit?
Texas A&M KR Speedy Noil may think twice before attempting another return against Alabama this afternoon.
On the above attempt, he nearly gets his head taken off by Alabama LB Mack Wilson, who hits Noil with the force of a Mack truck.
We’ve seen players ejected for lesser hits this season, so it’s possible the referees missed a targeting penalty.
Here’s another angle for the play. You be the judge — clean, or targeting?
Ya that might be targeting lol. I’m impressed speedy walked away from that play
It was targeting 2 weeks ago UT vs TAMU….It was targeting today….if not going to call it…Get rid of the stupid rule….enough already!
Why are you here? This isn’t a UT article. You cry whenever a non UT fan posts on a UT article……Tissue?
Yes please….Thank you!
He’s not wrong. An identical play against UT. Watch the videos. The exact same hits. Crown of helmet to facemask. Both are targeting. Neither were called.
Maybe should’ve been a personal foul. Targeting is against a defenseless player.
True, targeting is against a defenseless, however, I disagree that it was a personal foul. It was a high tackle.
Since when is a high tackle a personal foul?
Read the rule. This is a textbook call for targeting and the refs blew it totally.
This is part of the rule:
No player shall target and make forcible contact against an opponent with the crown (top) of his helmet. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting. When in question, it is a foul.
Targeting is not just against a defensless player it is also leading with the crown of the helmet of which this is neither.
There’s two parts to the targeting rule. If the player in question leads with his helmet and initiates helmet to helmet contact, it overrides the defenseless player portion of the rule and is still targeting. His feet left the ground and hit helmet to facemask, so hard in fact, it broke his facemask. That was definitely targeting. Most likely case scenario now is that the SEC front office will review it and he will probably miss the LSU game in a couple weeks. (assuming thats Bama’s next game, im not 100% sure of their schedule)
Read the rule on targeting. There are two parts of the rule. One on defenseless players. One for hits on others. Leading with the crown of the helmet is targeting. It should have been called.
Man ole man UT is still butt hurt
Your remarks are as weak as you are…..You couldn’t fight your way out of a thick fog! Go to bed…. Your tired!
Not true anymore. Targeting now includes everyone
Not targeting. Contact at the shoulder first.
That was a player leading with the crown of his helmet initiating contact with the helmet of the other player. That was textbook targeting. You’re either blind or stupid if you think that isn’t targeting.
it’s a bama fan, what do you think
Hell yeah that was targeting lmao
How did he get up ?
They have been 2 noncalled targeting fouls on the same player. If any says that Bama does t get calls their way is either dumb or blind. These refs need to be fined for that stuff. How can you not call those hits targeting? Just piss poor officiating. If anyone beats Bama it will take non-SEC officials.
Wow, your ignorant comment is just lauaghable. Please tell me how either of Mack Wilsons hits were targeting? How many times have you seen targeting called of kickoff?
They really don’t breed em smart in TN do they?
Both were with the crown of the helmet idiot. Textbook call blown. Go back to your mobile home.
Ha, okay. I find it funny that Verne and Gary know more than the rest of the people crying targeting in this thread.
Hey “bamasuckseveryday” – read the rule. I included it above – get your momma to read it for you. Based on your comment, your are totally ignorant of this rule – so shut up.
You might also note that Gary called the first one targeting and pointed out the officials blew it. That is damning evidence for two guys that want to “room” with Saban.
The TAMU 12th man did the exact same thing to Evan Berry two weeks ago. I don’t feel bad for TAMU. Taste of their own medicine.
So this is targeting but the other one isn’t ?
Defenseless player you fool…. the guy on kickoff could easily see Mack Wilson coming and changed his body to make contact with him, which is why it looked like targeting. Harris was obviously defenseless.
Lol so biased they were both targeting but A&M gets called for it
There’s an obvious fundamental difference in the plays…. one was a cheap shot on a defenseless player at the end of a play and the other wasn’t.
Cry me a river
Hey bamaGetsCalls….are you really going to cry yourself to sleep over this ….Please stop… you are embarrassing yourself ….and we could care less if you got a jersey…really??
Wow! I’m beyond flattered. Not only have I managed to bust your bubble, but you are referencing my posts from other threads!
We remember total idiots from different threads. That should flatter you.
I concur. Although it looked really bad , the runner was not defenseless. He could see the tackler coming.
I thought the hit on the aTm player on the kickoff was border line and could have been called or not called it was very close. If that hit was on a QB it probably would easily have been called targeting.
The hit after the aTm pick was definitely targeting and it even looked like the aTm player left his feet to deliver the block which will get the targeting call every time.
Good game so far, but aTm needs to stop arm tackling.
Targeting does not have to be against a defenseless player if the player.making the hit leads with the crown of his head and launches. He clearly lead with his head and launched and never even raised his atms. It was as much targeting as the call that got called on A&M in review.
As Donald Trump would say, WRONG. Kickoff was a clean hit. Don’t like it? Lobby to take away kickoffs or play the game without helmets…
You are wrong. It doesn’t have to be against a defenseless player. Learn the rules. Better yet, learn to read. Gary and Verne showed the rule on screen.
What about your 12th man against UT 2 weeks ago????
12th man? Must have missed that… obviously the refs did too
You are an Idiot …why are you trolling while your team is playing?? What a Douche!!!
Roll Tide!
Is anyone who ever saw any SEC game played against Bama surprised by this?
No.
It was not targeting because that rule does not apply to Bama. They have a special set of rules for them. Holding facemask and targeting are not going to be called.
Thats because the head of SEC officials is a bammer grad so they get something for that alone. Got to keep the boss happy!
Gotta love that “BAMA PRIVILEGE” GIG the !@()#&%)& out of em A&M!!……
This angle is terrible. They showed an angle where Noil’s helmet and facemask actually bend due to the force. Gotta say football was better in 90′ and early 2000’s when hits like these weren’t met with such critisicism. Before long all you guys will be able to play (joke) cause physicality won’t matter. It’s funny though college football ejects players for big hits, commentators lose their minds and want the player ejected, nobody seems to like big hits but on ESPN college gameday and every video you watch advertising college football they sure do love to show the big hits (that they hate)…Roll Tide!
Targeting. Otherwise, there is no point in having the rule.
I am an Alabama fan, but by rule it should have been called. Player doesn’t have to be defenseless when leading with crown of helmet and hit is head to head. Was a hell of a hit (one that would have been legal in my playing days lol) but they either need to be better about calling it or wait to till after game so can be reviewed carefully and make punishment for next game. I may not agree with the rule but something needs to be changed if looking out for their safety.
At first I thought this wasn’t targeting since the guy wasn’t defenseless. But if the other commenters on here are right then they changed the rule so I guess it was targeting. The sec better review this and suspend him for a game. I would be more mad at the bad call if I didn’t hate the rule so much.
While it appears to be targeting on the videos, a still photo I took from the video shows the point of first contact lower than the head. Maybe the refs saw that.
