WATCH: CBS 'Inside College Football' crew makes picks for College Football Playoff
The College Football Playoff is still a few months away, but the regular season starts on Saturday!
That means preseason picks are coming in, and on Monday night, the CBS “Inside College Football” crew made their Playoff picks.
As you can see below, Aaron Murray, Houston Nutt and Brian Jones pick their four finalists:

Murray’s Playoff picks look like this:
- Alabama
- Clemson
- Michigan
- Georgia
Nutt’s picks were:
- Clemson
- Alabama
- Georgia
- Oregon
Jones, ever the one for bold picks, had it looking like this:
- Georgia
- Clemson
- Michigan State
- Oregon
Will any of them be proven right? We’ll start finding out shortly.
Oregon getting some love…
Yo where’s Florida at? Here’s my bold prediction. Florida finishes unranked at the end of the season. They simply do not have the players or the depth and this Florida fan “belief” that Dan Mullen will always find a way to out game plan you is hilarious at best and embarrassing at worst. Heard it here first.
Mullen is a great coach but his big game play calling can make you scratch your head at times.
Hopefully Auburn can basically eliminate Oregon in week 1. I don’t see Michigan State as a real threat here. Michigan is at least a legitimate maybe. No love at all for Ohio State or Oklahoma.
Jones has Michigan State and Oregon without Alabama? Soooo, im guessing he thinks they lose 2 games Georgia and Lsu,Auburn,??? Anyone leaving out Bama has no reason to be picking at all? Anyone who thinks Tua is going to take a step back this year is nuts, this team will be good and Tua will be a beast! Now, let’s say he thinks LSU beats bama where is the TIGERS in his pick? Geaux Tigers but Bama will be just as good this year as any before! Pretty simple
I also don’t see the Pac-12 going to the playoffs. Oklahoma would have 2 lose 2, Texas 2– Georgia losing 2,Bama 2– Ohio State 2, Michigan 2. Any one of those team’s lose only 1 and win division they in.. Michigan could never beat Ohio State because urban is a better coach hands down this year who knows i still say they lose.. And Notre Dame might (might) go unbeaten again even though they dont deserve a chance at the playoffs with no conference championship id rather see UCF they deserve as much chance as Notre Dame does jmo
I’m with you on the Pac.. I don’t see who they have that will improve enough to lock up a playoff spot this season. They don’t have that standout or dominant team in conference like the ACC, SEC and B12… I believe the last spot is going to a B1G team this year and Michigan is probably a good luck with the changes at OSU.
UCF over ND? You can’t mean that. Conference champ game or no. IMO.
I’m a little surprised that no one is really mentioning Texas. Even if they get beat by LSU, they will probably be favored in every other game except Oklahoma. They’re my dark horse for the playoffs.
Yeah but they return like 4 starters on offense.
That is significant, but the defenses in the Big12 aren’t exactly world beaters. Sam Ehlinger should be able to mask some of that.
They would have to still beat OU twice, and they would be behind LSU for one of the last bids. They also don’t return much on defense. Their schedule doesn’t offer an opportunity for a bunch of notable wins. They need to beat LSU to have a legitimate shot as their entire conference doesn’t have much chance for OOC quality wins.
All valid. But while I don’t think anyone like’s Tom Herman, he’s a hell of a coach. Texas had quite a turnaround last year. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that they will be better this year and OU will have a drop off without Murray.
Could be, and I agree about Herman.
It’ll be the SEC champ, Clemson, whichever Big 12 or B1G champ looks better and doesn’t have an embarrassing loss, and the 2nd place SEC team.
And then people will whine that it’s not fair their conference didn’t get to go, and then they’ll whine more when the evidence for their suckiness shows at the draft and in bowl season, and then we’ll get a whole ‘nother offseason of new dark horses from the Pac 12 and why Michigan is going to blow us all away this year.
God, I love college football. So many opportunities to complain.
And then they will expand the playoffs to 8. That won’t end it either.
At least 8 wouldn’t leave out any conference champ (or shouldn’t). If it’s so unbalanced that a conference champ doesn’t deserve to be in a playoff, then a realignment really needs to happen.
