WATCH: Middle Tennessee's attempt at a trick play is one of the worst you'll ever see
Sometimes, football coaches get too tricky for their own good, and that was the case with Middle Tennessee on Saturday night.
Taking on Appalachian State in the New Orleans Bowl, the Blue Raiders pulled off one of the worst trick plays you’ll ever see.
As you can see in the GIF below, the Blue Raiders had a player crouched behind the offensive line. As the play went to the left, QB Brent Stockstill tried to sneak the ball to the player, who was going to wait and then take off to the right. However, Appalachian State was not fooled at all:
Desmond Franklin breaks up the pass to the end zone, and Middle Tennessee is on the board first with a short field goal for a 3-0 lead with 5:15 left in the first quarter.

Yeah, that play should probably be ripped out of the playbook and burned at halftime, as it fooled no one.
Middle Tennessee managed to get on the board on the drive though, kicking a field goal to take a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
