In his first year as the head coach at Memphis, former NBA star Penny Hardaway has certainly ruffled a few feathers, and not because he’s leading the Tigers to a lot of success.

No, he’s drawing attention because of all the comments he’s making about people being jealous of him and the way he can’t let go of the loss to Tennessee earlier this year.

On Saturday morning’s episode of College GameDay on ESPN, host Rece Davis ripped the Memphis coach, saying he needs to focus on winning more games:

“Penny Hardaway is absolutely right about that, because everybody who didn’t play in the NBA is jealous of people who did, because they have big money,” Davis said. “And you know what else? Penny is jealous of people who were better than him in the NBA. And Penny’s probably jealous of other coaches around the country who have a bigger budget, a better plane, better practice facility and whatever else. You know why that is? As the great American philosopher Jerry Seinfeld once said, ‘I’m jealous of everybody.’ Everybody is jealous of everybody, Penny, so here’s an idea — win some more games, get to the top, keep recruiting and make them even more jealous.”

Memphis is only 13-9 this year and in fifth place in the AAC. Hardaway has some elite recruits coming in next year, but for now, he’s not among the nation’s top coaches.
