Carlos Vargas-Aburto, the president of Southeast Missouri State University, was captured recently drinking from a beer bong at a football tailgate.

While he is certainly over the age of 21, he still felt the need to issue an apology for his behavior.

Take a look at the video of Vargas-Aburto drinking at the tailgate below, with plenty of students filming him:

Per SEMissourian.com, Vargas-Aburto called it a “poor decision,” saying he’s not proud of what he did:

“The above action projects an image that I am not proud of, is not flattering, and certainly not expected from the president of Southeast Missouri State University,” he wrote in the statement.

As president of Southeast, he continued, he has a responsibility “to show with words and deeds that I live by and uphold the values and principles that we work very hard to instill and strengthen in our university community, in particular, our students.”

The issue, as Vargas-Aburto sees it, is that beer bongs are often used for binge drinking — a behavior he doesn’t want to condone.

However, this particular “scandal” doesn’t seem too bad — he was just having some fun before a football game.
