WATCH: UCF players give big roar when Santa Claus delivers a scholarship
Awarding scholarships in front of the team is one of the more popular events across college football. This time, Central Florida added a holiday twist to the reveal with help from Santa Claus.
After handing out gifts to two other players, Santa Claus called Jon Powell to the front of the room and handed him a gift that revealed he’d receive a scholarship, which brought a roar of approval from his teammates in the room.
Powell has watched his role steadily increase since he was on the scout team in 2017 as a freshman.
This year, he appeared in 11 games as a defensive back, and had a career-high three tackles against Florida Atlantic.
