Week 6 FBS game has kickoff time changed due to scary mosquito-borne illness
Earlier this season, FCS school Merrimack College had to move a nighttime kickoff up a few hours to help fans avoid mosquitos.
Currently, the New England area is being plagued by Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), a scary mosquito-borne illness that causes brain swelling and may result in seizures, paralysis and death.
The kickoff time changes have now reached the FBS level, as UConn will move its game against USF on Saturday from 7 p.m. local time to noon, according to Brett McMurphy:
Saturday’s USF at UConn kickoff moved from 7 pm to noon as safety precaution after receiving guidance from the Connecticut Department of Public Health, relating to the mosquito-borne eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus

Some Connecticut towns are even implementing curfews regarding outdoor public activities due to the spreading virus.
Stay safe out there, football fans!
