As the news of Urban Meyer’s retirement came out Tuesday morning, conversation quickly turned to what’s next for the Ohio State coach following seven seasons with the Buckeyes.

His health and an early-season suspension were among several reasons for the retirement.

As college football insiders and analysts weighed in on his future, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit said he believes this is the end of his coaching career.

“No. 1, I don’t see him coaching again,” Herbstreit said. “I wouldn’t be surprised to see him stay within the Ohio State community — stay within the athletic department in some capacity.

Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports reported that Meyer is expected to spend more time with his family, which includes one grandchild and another on the way. He may consider television work and could potentially do work with the Ohio State athletic department in some capacity.

That role could include mentoring coaches and leaders, as Meyer has maintained a strong relationship with Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith.
