The National Association of College Directors of Athletics ranks every athletic department on overall performance every year.

However, that ranking system gives equal weight to all sports. On Wednesday, CBS Sports released its ranking of all 130 FBS athletic departments, and its ranking system differs.

In this ranking, football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball performances are included, along with two “wildcard” sports — the two other sports that the school had the best finishes in.

Ohio State took home the No. 1 spot, but as you can see below, Alabama was close behind, finishing No. 2. See where each SEC squad ranked here:

  • No. 2 — Alabama
  • No. 10 — Georgia
  • No. 12 — Auburn
  • No. 14 — Mississippi State
  • No. 16 — Texas A&M
  • No. 19 — Kentucky
  • No. 21 — LSU
  • No. 30 (tie) — South Carolina
  • No. 33 (tie) — Mizzou
  • No. 33 (tie) — Florida
  • No. 36 — Tennessee
  • No. 53 — Arkansas
  • No. 83 (tie) — Vanderbilt
  • No. 91 — Ole Miss

These rankings pretty closely follow the SEC’s power dynamic when it comes to football, and it is interesting to see seven squads in the top 25.

Now, it’ll be up to some of the other schools to close the gap during the 2018-19 academic year.
