Most metrics show that Alabama is the current top team in the SEC. Phil Steele’s Vegas Power Ratings are no different.

Each week, Steele compiles date from various Las Vegas sources, including a trio of casinos, to develop weekly ratings for each college football program in the country. As Steele points out, it “gives you an idea of how much teams would be favored over another team if they met on a neutral field,” so it differs from the AP Top 25 poll and other rankings.

Still, it’s not a surprise to see which teams are at the top. Clemson holds the No. 1 spot, while Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia and Notre Dame round out the top five this week.

Here’s where each SEC team landed in the third edition of this year’s ratings:

2. Alabama 139.37
4. Georgia 131.67
6. Florida 126.86
11. Texas A&M 124.22
18. LSU 119.93
23. Auburn 117.22
36. Kentucky 113.86
38. South Carolina 113.12
40. Tennessee 112.96
43. Missouri 112.48
52. Ole Miss 110.69
57. Arkansas 109.41
60. Mississippi State 109.04
108. Vanderbilt 94.37

Despite being 2-2 and having losses to Mississippi State and Missouri, LSU still comes in at No. 18, making it the fifth-highest SEC team in the Vegas Power Ratings. Perhaps that shows the Tigers are a better team than their record indicates, and maybe they’ll get back on track soon.
