Where nation's top 10 running backs are headed in 2017
Looking at some of the top running backs in the nation and it shouldn’t be a surprise that Alabama is involved heavily with the group. The Crimson Tide already have a verbal commitment from five-star prospect Najee Harris – the top-rated player in the nation – but they are not done.
Here’s a quick update on the Top 10 ranked running backs in the nation, according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings.
1. Najee Harris (Antioch, Calif.)
Size: 6-3, 226
Status: Committed to Alabama
Update: The top-rated prospect in the nation according to 247 Sports Composite rankings appears to be solidly committed to Alabama and camped in Tuscaloosa this week. Programs like USC, Texas, Ohio State and Michigan are still fighting for Harris but to no avail.

2. Cam Akers (Clinton, Miss.)
Size: 5-11.5, 215
Update: Recent updates have Akers pretty high on Georgia and Michigan. He’s also checking out Ohio State and Florida State and could camp at one or both places in the upcoming weeks. Ole Miss is also waiting in the wings.
3. Stephen Carr (Fontana, Calif.)
Size: 6-0, 202
Status: Committed to USC
Update: Doesn’t appear to be much here as Carr is solidly with the Trojans right now.
4. D’Andre Swift (Philadelphia)
Size: 5-10, 204
Update: Late last month Swift released a top five of Penn State, Clemson, FSU, Georgia and Alabama.
5. Khalan Laborn (Virginia Beach, Va.)
Size: 5-10, 199
Update: Laborn has a top group of schools that include the usual suspects – Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech. He was expected to commit this week but has pushed back his date. Auburn, FSU and Virginia Tech appear to be in good position.
6. J.K. Dobbins (La Grange, Texas)
Size: 5-9, 199
Status: Committed to Ohio State
Update: Dobbins is solid to the Buckeyes, but Texas and Oklahoma are staying in touch.
7. Anthony McFarland Jr. (Hyattsville, Md.)
Size: 5-8, 185
Update: Alabama and Georgia appear to be in the best position among SEC teams, while Maryland and Miami are also in the mix.

8. Cordarrian Richardson (Memphis, Tenn.)
Size: 5-11, 220
Status: Committed to Clemson
Update: The closest contender to Clemson appears to be Florida State, but Richardson is a solid Tiger for now.
9. Toneil Carter (Houston, Texas)
Size: 5-10.5, 197
Update: Texas A&M and Georgia have been battling to be at the top of Carter’s list. If Carter attends the Aggies’ “recruiting BBQ” this weekend, they could be the team to beat.
10. Ty Chandler (Memphis, Tenn.)
Size: 6-0, 195
Update: Chandler has a top eight of USC, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Duke, Ohio State, Florida, Georgia and Auburn. He recently camped at Ole Miss and it looks like the Rebels and Volunteers have jumped out ahead of the other schools.
