Wild finish! Alabama high school team erases 9-point deficit in 1:19 to win state title
The Alabama 7A High School State Championship was played on Wednesday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium in front of a sparse, limited-capacity crowd.
It looked like Auburn High School was going to hold on for a win over Thompson, but then everything went haywire.
As you can see below, in the final 1:19, Thompson overcame a 9-point deficit to win 29-28. Thompson blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown. Then, after recovering an onside kick, Thompson used 2 defensive pass interference penalties against Auburn to get in range for the game-winning field goal:
That’s one of the craziest endings we’ve ever seen, and of course it involved a team from Auburn.
That’s a game that will be remembered in Alabama high school history for years to come.
