After trying week for morale, Mike Bobo comments on Luke Doty, Collin Hill following narrow loss to Missouri
South Carolina had a difficult week following the firing of coach Will Muschamp. But interim coach Mike Bobo tried to rally the troops against Missouri, but it wasn’t enough as the Gamecocks fell 17-10.
QB Luke Doty offered a spark as he relieved Collin Hill in the second half, and breathed life into the offense until a late interception sealed the game. The South Carolina defense improved in the second half, and largely bottled up the Missouri offense.
Here’s a sampling of what Bobo shared with the media:
Mike Bobo: “I’ll say this about Luke Doty: the moment was not too big for him.”

Mike Bobo: Shi Smith seemed fine in the locker room afterward. Too early to tell what’s going on there.
As for Doty and next week: They’ll look at Georgia’s defense and see what’s up, but Doty didn’t hurt his chances for next week.

Bobo: Bottom line business and they didn’t get the W tonight, but he’s proud of the team and coaches, there was no quit. Guys continued to fight. #Gamecocks

Bobo: Can’t say enough about the defense, they fought all night, it was a field position game and they never could get that flipped. #Gamecocks

Bobo: Thought as the game went along there was some belief on the team that they could get it done, now has got to get that at the start of the game. #Gamecocks

Bobo: Too early to tell on prognosis on Shi Smith, seemed in good spirits. As for starting QB, Doty helped his cause for next week but have to look and see who gives them best chance against Georgia. #Gamecocks

Bobo: Dakereon Joyner was questionable coming into the game (and didn’t play).
“We’re not real potent on offense right now.”

Bobo: Last possession, Missouri dropped 8 back in a zone, got to continue to check the ball down with 1 time out, last play tried to hit on a dig play, needed to check it down, he didn’t see the Mizzou player, he’ll learn from it. #Gamecocks
