Anonymous coach praises Shane Beamer on 7-6 season, says Will Muschamp 'wouldn't have done that'
An anonymous coach praised upcoming second-year South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer for the Gamecocks’ 7-6 season in 2021.
Beamer was praised for his ability to adapt to four separate quarterbacks throughout the season, three of which started at some point during the year.
Anonymous coach on the #Gamecocks (via @Lindyssportsmag) …
'They went 7-6 & won a bowl game playing four QBs, none of whom were very good. Remarkable. I don't even know how you describe it. That's not supposed to happen. Speaks to coaching. Muschamp wouldn't have done that…'
— Brad Crawford (@BCrawford247) June 15, 2022
The four starting quarterbacks in question were Zeb Noland, Jason Brown, Luke Doty and Dakereon Joyner.
Will Muschamp was head coach of the Gamecocks for 5 seasons after stints at Florida, both in the NFL as an assistant head coach (Miami Dolphins) and college as the Gators’ head man for 4 seasons.
Beamer has had a strong start with the Gamecocks, sharing the Steve Spurrier First Year Coach Award with Tennessee’s Josh Heupel in 2021.
Accurate assessment.
Best to stay anonymous when spouting junk. Muschamp very may well have. Beamer beat some pretty bad teams by the skin of his teeth, with his only quality win against UNC. I will withhold my judgement until there is a greater sample size.
Beamer is already a better HC than Muschsmp ever was, your judgement notwithstanding.
Will’s very poor record of hiring assistants & coordinators plus his micro-managing of every aspect of the football program at both Florida & South Carolina were his downfall as a head coach.
Wow Bill, very insightful. So if Beamer beating teams by the skin of his teeth doesn’t impress you, what about Muschamp losing to those teams does impress you?
Muschamp won 9 games his second year at SC. Doubt Beamer equals that. You are comparing two HC’s based on nothing. Barely beating Vandy, Troy and ECU does not impress me…and yeah, I think Muschamp would have beaten them too.
As a Gator fan, I can attest that Muschamp sucks out loud.
I agree, but worse than Beamer? Based on what?
My own two eyes.
Don’t forget GSU in The Swamp. He should have been fired immediately after that game, but dumb Foley kept him around to do more damage.
Bill..we all know that Will’s a co-defensive coordinator at Georgia.but you need to temper your belief in his ability as a HC. In the position as head coach he was horrible at Florida & S.C.
Never said Muschamp was a good HC, he wasn’t. What I said was that Beamer despite his enthusiasm has yet to prove he is a better coach.
Muschamp was went up
Then went MISERABLY down
Sooooo.. how do YOU asses a coach ?
Taking other recruits .. riding them out, then YOUR recruits fizzle out ?
Or taking those SAME recruited you couldn’t win with and exceeding expectations??
No.. I’ll wait ..
Bruh… Champ lost to App State, in 2019, with NFL talent in the roster. Every QB who left him while he was at UF, with subpar plat at UF, ended up in the NFL. Champ is a horrendous HC. That’s all. Moving on…
WORD
Yeah, they had some wins that practically felt like loses, that’s a Gamecock staple. If UNC = quality win then UF & Auburn do as well.
No Muschamp would not have done that. He would have never made the QB changes to. He did once his first year when starting Jake Bentley mid-way thru the year. He peaked early in his sophomore year then struggled hard. Never benched for performance.
Uhm
Muschamp couldn’t beat a wet paper bag
Sorry
SC was supposed to go 3-9
They went 6-6 with a bowl win
Muschamp couldn’t do that
The future is VERY bright in Gamecock Football Nation – especially with Shane Beamer as the Coach. GO COCKS!
What a nothing burger.
Anonymous coach? My guess?
Spurrier, Stephen Orr.
Who else would know the two programs that Duncechump destroyed better than him. More obvious, how many coaches would make that QB comparison in their first quote? Maybe Kiffin, but who else?
As a Gamecock fan I have teased the years of Muschump from my memory It’s been Spurrier then Beamer for me.
Erased.
I do think he’s obviously better than Muschamp, but curious to see if he can maintain or build on the success from last year. Rattler was a good pickup, but I still think we need 3-4 years to actually see his full impact on the Gamecocks. I remember being excited about most of the prior Tennessee hires when they showed glimpses of success and look how they all panned out.
I did enjoy having the Gamecocks at a more competitive level in the SEC east. Their fanbase deserves it, and LOVED watching the atmosphere in Columbia when Spurrier had them clicking. Never will forget the Georgia night game with Williams-Brice was jamming out in 2012. Good times for sure.
*when WIlliams-Brice
I love Beamer but I’m with this. We’ll learn what type of coach he truly is by year 4. Hopeful he turns out to be what we need!
Definitely is the man we needed after Chump! GO COCKS and GO BEAMER !!!
Go Cocks !
Agreed
Love him
But he’s got 3 more years to show what he’s made of
I do take issue with his statement “none of whom were very good”. One of them was: Dakereon Joyner, who was 9 for 9 for 160 yards and a touchdown against UNC. He also had 24 receptions for 221 yards (9.2 ypc) and 18 rushes for 77 yards (4.3 ypr) during the season. He definitely needs more playing time in 2022.
Balkwyll…I enjoyed seeing Dakereon get the start in the Bowl Game & he played great, but thinking of his passing-ability as a starting SEC QB=? He’s a good kid and and has faced adversity getting playing time at S.C. but being an elite QB in the SEC is not just one(1) game…plus the Tar Heels were just not a very good team in 2021. Go Cocks in 2022 !
He balled out for sure. But looking at his fundamentals and throwing motion etc? Hes not going to be good consistently. It just isnt going to happen. Same with Jason. can have good games but is not going to be consistent against SEC level competition.
He is an athlete, like Deebo Samuel. His overall body of work speaks for itself. I agree that the sample size is small, but you can’t make a statement like that with nothing to back it up.
I thought Zeb Noland got the start in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl and DJ came in shortly after. Could be wrong.
Okay…so reviewed game tape. Zeb Noland lined up under center on the first play but then split wide and DJ took the first snap. I’m no official NCAA statistician, so not sure how they determine who the starting QB is.
The anonymous coach is Kirby smart
When Muschamp was hired .. I
Cringed .. but out my best foot forward and wished him the best ..
Beamer is a breathe of fresh air
Love the guy
