Great news for Gamecock Nation, as Jamyest Williams has decided to stick with his commitment and sign with South Carolina instead of flipping his commitment to Georgia. Williams announced his decision during a signing ceremony at his Grayson high school.

This was one commitment the Gamecocks could not afford to let slip away to its division rival, as Williams is expected to make an immediate impact in Columbia this season.

Rated as a four-star prospect, Williams ranks as the nation’s No. 74 overall prospect, the No. 8 cornerback in the nation and Georgia’s No. 9 overall prospect, according to 247Sports. While the 2017 Under Armour All-American had been committed to the Gamecocks for several months, Kirby Smart and his Georgia staff put on a full-court press to flip the talented Peach State prospect during the final weeks of his recruitment.

Also helping the Bulldogs was the fact that his Grayson teammate, and fellow four-star recruit, Deangelo Gibbs has already enrolled in Athens. However, in the end, Williams’ relationship with Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson won out.

You can check out the talented defensive back’s senior season highlight reel here. Don’t be surprised to see Williams make an impact on South Carolina’s special teams unit immediately in 2017, while working his way into the defensive secondary for the Gamecocks.
