Three-time national champion Barry Switzer isn’t buying the narrative that Steve Spurrier’s lost a step due to his age.

It’s a talent issue at South Carolina.

“Age has nothing to do with anything,” Switzer said, according to SEC Country. “His age has nothing to do with him getting his ass beat a couple of days ago (by Kentucky).”

Switzer was the guest speaker at Monday’s Atlanta Touchdown Club meeting and says despite his own age (77), he could win games as a head coach. The former Arkansas standout built a dynasty at Oklahoma before winning Super Bowl XXX with the Dallas Cowboys.

“Hell yeah, I can still coach,” Switzer said to SEC Country. “I can recruit players and evaluate talent, still. If I had a good product like I did at Oklahoma, I can still recruit and coach with no problem. The only thing that may change is I may use a golf cart more to get around now.”
