If there was one member from the wide audience who watched Shane Beamer’s introductory press conference who had a unique view of what he felt, and his development as a coach, it was his father, Frank Beamer.

Frank Beamer and his wife were crying, cheering and smiling watching their son on Monday, he said on a video call with South Carolina reporters, including Mitch Brown of WACH and Ben Breiner of The State. The father recalled that when his son was riding the bus at Murray State, he had the sense he’d coach some day, and that Shane never asked him to make any phone calls on his behalf.

Frank added that Shane works hard at everything, and knew early on he’d be a good coach. The son has been choosy with opportunities, and he has a first guy in, last guy out attitude.

“He’s done it on his own,” Frank said. “He’s put in his time. … He’s absolutely made me tremendously proud.”

The trademark nickname that has followed the family may not necessarily move to South Carolina, but Frank explained that “Beamer Ball” is being able to score no matter which unit is on the field.

While Shane said Frank would be around the program, Frank said Shane would hire a good staff, and those assistants would listen to him. His only advice to his son was to be genuine and be yourself.

Frank also added that he loves South Carolina superfan and musician Darius Rucker.

“I’ve seen him in concert I don’t know how many times,” Frank said, and added he looks forward to playing golf with Rucker.
