WATCH: Former South Carolina Gamecock athlete named Miss USA 2019

Miss USA 2019 was crowned on Thursday and it turns out a former Gamecock won the event.

The latest Miss USA competition was held from the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada. On Thursday evening, in front of a live audience and broadcast around the world, North Carolina native Cheslie Kryst won the crown.

While she is from North Carolina and got her law degree at Wake Forest, yes, she’s a practicing attorney, Kryst got her undergraduate degree from South Carolina. A member of the track team during her time in Columbia, Kryst graduated from USC in 2013.

Kryst will now move on to represent America in the Miss Universe pageant.
