South Carolina landed a big-time commitment from former Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler. Rattler, who was the leading Heisman candidate going into this season before he was benched during the halfway point of the season and was replaced by backup Caleb Williams.

The handwriting was on the wall that eventually Rattler would enter the transfer portal and go somewhere else, which he did, but where he landed was a shock to many. Some college football experts thought that Rattler may follow his former head coach Lincoln Riley and to USC, but instead, he went to Columbia and decided to play for South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer.

SEC college football analyst Chris Doering praised Beamer for the recruiting job he did in getting Rattler to Columbia.

“What a great illustration of the kind of recruiter he is,” he said.

Beamer led the Gamecocks to a 6-6 record and a bowl game this season.
