Gamecocks safety decides not to transfer, returns to practice
As far as South Carolina fans were concerned, the days of Chris Moody patrolling South Carolina’s defensive backfield were a thing of the past.
The former starter at safety was believe to be transferring out of the program following his planned graduation at the end of this semester.
But according to a report from The Big Spur, Moody was back on the practice field for Will Muschamp’s team on Tuesday.
“He recently expressed some desire to stay at South Carolina,” Muschamp said. “He was still here, so we gave him the opportunity to come practice with us. I hope (he can help us).”
It is good news for a South Carolina secondary that was considered to be so light at the safety position that Muschamp joked about suiting up himself and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson to fill out numbers at the position.
Senior Rico McWilliams, who is a roommate of Moody’s, didn’t even know for sure that he was going to return until Tuesday.
“I found out when he told me earlier (Tuesday),” McWilliams said. “I just told him he had to come out ready to play. I didn’t recruit him, I just told him to do what’s best for you and wished him the best. I was happy for whatever decision he made.”
Moody could conceivably work his way back up the depth chart pretty quickly.
