College football fans, media rip South Carolina for key 4th-and-19 play call
College football fans are becoming more and more knowledgable about the game they love. Analytics are accessible to everyone in this day and age.
Thus, most educated fans these days know that going for it on fourth down is often the right call if you’re playing the percentages.
However, you also have to call the right play on 4th down, which is a part of the equation often overlooked by coaches.
Case in point: check out this play call from South Carolina on a key 4th and 19 play in the fourth quarter of a tight game against North Carolina on Saturday night:

Yeah, that’s just not going to cut it. New South Carolina OC Dowell Loggains whiffed on that call.
Fans and media members knew it right away, too. Check out some of this reaction from social media to the ill-fated play call:

What Gamecocks bettors wish they could do to Shane Beamer for going for it on 4th-&-19 instead of taking the points: pic.twitter.com/5pB0lRQ9fR

Hey when you get a chance to give your QB a throw 12 yards shy of the sticks on 4th & 19 you gotta do it

What is that play call on 4th & 19? Why would you not kick the field goal even? Extremely questionable decision there by Dowell Loggains and Shane Beamer.

A 10-yard out on 4th-and -19 is a call

Why would you run a comeback route on 4th and 19?!?!

Yeah, maybe that play should be torn out of the playbook before Week 2.
