When it was announced that Mike Bobo would not be returning at Colorado State for another season, Collin Hill knew his time in Fort Collins had likely come to an end, as well.

Little did Hill know at the time, he would be following Bobo to South Carolina.

Following his first few practices as a member of the Gamecock program, Hill — who could apply for a sixth-year and potentially have two seasons to play at South Carolina — was asked to discuss the process of leaving Colorado State as a graduate transfer and enrolling in Columbia.

“The end of last year, I knew there was going be a lot of change. With Coach (Bobo) deciding to leave, I’m coming off injury, so, a new change was coming,” Hill shared following Wednesday’s practice. “Met with the coach out there (at Colorado State) and just kind of knew that, you know, it was time for me to move on. I wasn’t sure what I was going to look like. Kind of just went through the transfer portal that whole process.

“Got a call from Coach Bobo and Coach Muschamp, the opportunity to come back home — I was super excited.”

So excited, in fact, Hill said he turned down an opportunity to visit Columbia for a recruiting visit.

The former Colorado State quarterback and South Carolina native didn’t need to see anything to convince him to leave the Rams for the SEC.

“They asked if I wanted to come on a visit,” Hill added, “if I needed to see anything and I’m like, ‘No. I’m good, as long as the offense, we’re doing similar stuff, I’m ready to come back home.'”

Adding a graduate transfer who likely expects to play immediately could make for some awkwardness in South Carolina’s QB room but that’s not been the case, according to Hill.

The veteran of the room expressed just how close that unit has been thus far in camp.

“I think it’s going well. We have a great quarterback room, we all get along real well,” Hill said. “I think we have a good offense. We are building chemistry and I think we’re going to be just fine.”
