Dabo Swinney has a challenge against in-state rival South Carolina this week.

While the Gamecocks have not had the most impressive season, there’s always some extra motivation in rivalry games and Saturday’s game is no different.

Ahead of Saturday’s matchup, Swinney broke down what makes the rivalrly so special.

“There’s no pro sports in this state,” Swinney said in his press conference Tuesday. “You move to Charleston, move to Greenville, you’re gonna get sucked into it one way or another and if you don’t you’re gonna lose some friends … they’re not gonna let you ride the fence.”

And the game on Saturday has a little extra juice as South Carolina is one win away from a bowl game after beating Kentucky on Saturday. But Swinney said this game already has plenty of juice, it doesn’t matter what the circumstances are.

“It’s already juiced up,” Swinney said. “Whether you’re 0-12 or 12-0 you wanna win this game.”

Last year, South Carolina spoiled Clemson’s season with an upset win. The Tigers will certainly be looking for a revenge game on Saturday.
