Dakereon Joyner has had a week he likely won’t forget anytime soon.

The South Carolina quarterback found out he lost the competition for backup quarterback to Ryan Hilinski, and was given a day off from practice to process it. But he’s apparently OK with it in the long run.

“A blessing delayed, is not a blessing denied ♥️ I’m blessed, I’m good,” he tweeted.

His high school coach no doubt was not surprised because he told reporters this week that Joyner is upbeat, hasn’t mentioned going anywhere else and is willing to do what he can to help the Gamecocks win games. Offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon has said similar things.

With how players, particularly high-profile quarterbacks, transfer throughout college football if they lose a position competition, this is a refreshing change.

This all adds more fuel to the belief that Joyner could move to a new position in order to see the field sooner.

Joyner, a redshirt freshman, is a former Mr. Football, and he’s from the Charleston area of South Carolina. He was regarded as one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks of his recruiting class.
